Hey, I dig, but just thought I'd mention the rules of Tanka as I've learned em: each line must be an independent image. I definitely cheated in my only attempt to write one. Also, from what I understand, the 57577 thing is the literal translation of the Japanese rules. They say if you're really tight, you cut it down to 12122 stresses, and don't count syllables, because of some of the differences between Japanese and English. One week we should try a poem-off: the same list of seven forms and seven themes, and see what the other guy does with it. We could end the week with one of those forms which requires two authors to take turns.
There's this sushi place called Japanika that's Yonatan's and my favorite sushi place in Tel Aviv. They make custom futomaki and it's so delicious. But he just read that a famous Japanese chef toured a bunch of sushi restaurants in Israel and said Japanika doesn't use fresh fish, so I guess now we have to find a new sushi restaurant.

thanks for the nudge. the version of tanka rules I had seen actually said that the 5-7-5 section had to be one image and the 7-7 section had to be a second image. I'm falling behind on my catchup, but once I'm on pace, I'd love to do some poem offs with you. Or, as the parlance may be in your neck of the woods, you're on, varmint!
Hey Shaz, sorry to hear about your sushi place. the amazing thing? I don't even like sushi! but there's a spot in Brooklyn I went to with knucklehead, backbeat, and cl that had this riduculously delicious sweet potato tempura roll.
